Role Models

“It’s fine to celebrate success but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure” – Bill Gates

A role model is defined as “a person whose behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others”. I figured if I want to aspire to become a better and more successful person, I should look at what other people have done successfully and aspire to be as great as them.

It is hard to say “this is exactly how I am going to be”, so therefore it feels like a smart idea to look up to others, get inspired by their stories and learning from them, but then still go on your own path. By doing so, although you are not sure where you are headed, you know that it is in the right direction.

It is also described as “someone who another person admires and tries to be like” and it is funny, but I have never really had anyone I admire in that sense before. I am a bit egotistic (although it pains me to admit it in writing) and I believe I can do everything myself, and therefore I have not thought I need any role models. I was so deadly wrong. If it something history shows us is that people keep repeating the mistakes other people have already done. So by looking at what other people have done we could actually get great advice and perhaps also save ourselves some energy and time. Therefore I have decided to read up on some people I think is great and try and get more inspired by them.
